Awa Wahine is a social enterprise, an organisation driven to trade in order to deliver social and environmental impact. Our goal is to have our own tino rangatiratanga. In order to achieve this Awa Wahine needs to be self-sustainable i.e. able to cover website and domain costs, provide a fair wage to the women who put their time into it and a koha for contributors.

Our vision is to grow a community of like-minded women for the aim to:

  1. Increase the readership of women’s writing.

  2. Encourage the publishing of women’s writing online and through traditional publishing.

  3. Support women who are writing at all stages with writing groups, workshops and publishing opportunities.

  4. Provide a safe online and print space for the publishing of women’s work on topics that are unlikely to be published elsewhere (due to current power structures).

We see this manifesting as:

  1. A self-sustainable online magazine (sustainable through advertising, paid content, shop products and donations)

  2. A self-sustainable monthly newsletter (sustainable through advertising and paid content)

  3. A self-sustainable yearly, six-monthly or even quarterly printed magazine (sustainable through advertising and paid content)

  4. Online writing workshops and courses

Awa Wahine remains free (and ad-free) and takes us tens of hours a month, and hundreds of dollars to sustain. If you believe in our mission and support the kaupapa then please consider a recurring monthly donation of your choosing, between a cup of tea and a good lunch:

♥ $3 / month

♥ $5 / month

♥ $7 / month

♥ $10 / month

♥ $25 / month

By supporting Awa Wahine, we can continue to share the stories of women.

Thank you and welcome to our community.
