Whispers of Memories

Last Night

I saw you last night

at the boat house

by the sandy bay

Moonlight touched

our faces,

while we lay underneath

countless stars,

holding hands

we talked about our dream of moving away,

and starting a life together

we ended up laughing at how

you borrowed your brother’s car

to come see me

and crashed into your mum’s garden shed instead

we were young and fearless

this was where I longed to stay

For a moment,

we both went quiet,

Heard waves crash into the shore

All of a sudden,

we saw a bright light

 across the sky,

it was a shooting star

and you pointed it out with excitement,

like watching a painted canvas

at night

it was a magical moment

to share with you

felt like it was just us and the universe

this dream can only mean so much more

Into the night

I lay on your chest,

to hear your heartbeat

was like whispers in the night

as the sun starts to rise

you hold me closer

and gave me a kiss,

if only you could stay

I saw you again, last night

at the boat house

by the sandy bay

Nana’s House

One cold night,

In my favourite red pyjamas

and in my yellow socks

Drinking a hot cuppa

While sitting by the fireplace

And listening to my Nana’s stories

She would tell bedtime stories,

my favourite one,

is the tale about the two twins

who went to live in the sky amongst the stars

“You can still see them,” my nana said

they appear as the Southern Cross

and the Magellanic Clouds

It gets warmer

When the flowers start to bloom

I sneak into my Nana’s room

Where the sun rises

and she greets me with her warm smile

In the summertime,

Hot and sunny days

At Nana’s house, she has a BBQ

we play tag with my cousins

while we wait for the food

afterwards, we end up driving to Mission Bay beach,

as it gets dark,

my Nana will always have to give us treats

to get us out of the water to head back home

A lot has changed at Nana’s house

the paint worn out

furniture’s been replaced

but her jewellery box is still there

her clothes and shoes,

and her photos

 A beautiful lady she is,

with short brown hair

and her fair skin

She loves to dress up for an occasion,

and she always know what to say at the right time,

she's a classy lady of her own

and a woman of her time

I sit by the fireplace,

remember the tale of the two twins

Nana told me about

When I spot them at night

It reminds me of my Nana

Oh, how I miss her
